DIY wooden furniture

A definitely unique look

One of the first articles I posted on my website was about DIY acoustic panels I made of wood. After building those it was a long time since I had built anything and I needed a bed, so I made myself the DIY Wapanese bed.

After building the bed I took a look at my apartment and kind of hated what I saw. Ugly, cheap furniture, but the stores didn't seem to have anything I wanted or needed, either. I got this vision of doing myself all the necessary furniture for my small city flat:

  • I wanted a work desk that could be transformed into a low table to save space.
  • The desk required a chair - not exactly woodworking, but close enough. But I did find some spare wood from my woodworking space (i.e. my parent's garage) and made a stool. It exists mainly to hold my mousepad, but can also be used for sitting.
  • I also found a couple of old furniture legs, so I turned both into lamps. I had previously already built a custom RGBW LED strip, so I decided to integrate that with wood.
  • I knew I wanted to get rid of my temporary Ikea TV bench, so add a TV stand to the list. I also wanted it to have some proper adjustability as I use the television as my computer display.
  • Moving to a new apartment that was a bit bigger, it needed some acoustic treatment. So throw in yet another wooden acoustic panel frame to the mix.
  • My lazy chair was very ugly and very worn. Maybe I could modify something from an Ikea Poäng lazy chair?
  • I also assembled a new computer and did some modifications to its case. I wanted more nice wood, I wanted walnut panels! I also wanted to keep my old retro LCD display.

This article is the end result gallery. The making of pictures I published in another article on my woodworking journey. In there I also explain some of my thought process and mistakes a bit more.
